Example of Microwave Power
Amplifier design and layout
developed for NASA at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory,
a client in 1990.
NASA
had an urgent need for a
space qualified 64 Watt Pulsed Power Amplifier for operation at C-Band.
The modular, first-cut, prototype is shown below. It consists of two
quadrature hybrid coupled pairs employing four GaAs FET s. Its
performance exceeded all requirements. It was on-orbit in 1994, being
used in the SIR-C Orbital Radar. This powerful, and high resolution
space radar has, among many other things, discovered "The Lost City of
Ubar" in the arabian desert, and the crater of the comet thought to
have killed off the dinosaurs millions of years ago.
