SMITHPLOT UTILITY
Introduction
The
SmithPlot Utility allows you to create a Smith
Chart to use for your network designs. When you run it, it asks you to
enter a decimal value for
AR, the aspect ratio,
or
to accept the
default value. The correct value of
AR should allow a
reasonably circular Smith Chart
to be drawn.
How to create a Smith Chart
When you choose "
(3) SmithPlot Utility" from the
Main
Menu, either by pressing "
3," or by using
the "
F3" function key, you'll enter the
SmithPlot
Utility. After an introductory message, you'll be asked to
enter a value for AR, the aspect ratio, or to click
<Enter>
to accept the
default value for your display.
The recommended procedure is for you to first press
<Enter>
and accept the
default value. If the Smith Chart
looks reasonably good, save it, if not, experiment with different, (
slightly
smaller or larger), values until you are satisfied.
We've found that for Windows
systems using the 'Windows' setting of (6), AR = 0.75 to 0.80
work well on 800 X 600 or 1024 X 768 display settings.
The adjustment range for circularity is limited, because of the need to
properly position marker text around the perimeter of the Smith Chart.
The nominal values of AR given, and the adjustment range provided,
should allow you to achieve
reasonable results.
